Mom, dad,
A-train, PT, and B rizzleton! Thanks you so much for the thoughts you shared with
me this past week. Much like you said
dad, I'm not much of a skillful writer either and probably can't convey my
feelings of gratitude for the fam in a way that you'll understand, but just
know that I am so grateful for you. It's
easy to work out here when you have a support system like the one Park and I
have. B-ray and Stinnybop, those
pictures you sent were sweet! Continue
to keep us posted on what's going on! Dad and mom thank you so much for your
thoughts and mom, thanks so much for your story! It's funny you write that because the whole
lesson of asking for a missionary opportunity and then needing to be ready to
act on it is a lesson that my testimony grew in tremendously this past week.
It came in two stories that I'll share with
ya. This past week we challenged ourselves to pass
out as many Books of Mormons as we could with a commitment to follow up with
the people we hand it out to. Friday
night rolls around, it's about 7:45pm. Super dark and has been for a few hours at
this point and super super cold. We still needed to pass out 2 more Books of
Mormon's to hit our goals. All of our plans and back up plans fell through so
we had an hour and 15 and didn't know what to do. It would've been soooo easy to fill that time
with the less-stressful things we have to do, like run reports and all that
jazz. But we still had two Books of
Mormon's to give away so we prayed and asked where to go. We were led to a ritzy ritzy neighborhood,
like I'm talking Beverly HIlls stat. After
the first 20 minutes or so and a whole lot of "shoo-away's" and
"we're deceived's" we ran into a lady named Michelle. She has at least 4 kids. Shared the Book of Mormon, applied it to her
life, testified, and BOOM we're going back the Tuesday after they return from
out of town to teach the family. We
still have one book at this point and it comes to about 8:50pm. Our house is a little ways away so we needed
to start heading to the truck to head home. As we were walking we pass a door and felt the
tug to knock it. So we did. Josh, the father, came to the door. We acknowledged the lateness of the hour but
testified about the importance of the Book of Mormon. We are going back in a week and a half to
teach his family as well.
The other story comes from last night. Same thing, our appointment cancelled, and the
backups weren't really having it so we had about on hour to still work. We prayed again that day to be able to hit our
goal of handing out Books of Mormons and a name comes to our minds. The Leary's. The husband Brian is a member but his wife and
two kids, Adin and Kira, aren't. His a
less active missionary contact which usually means bad news bears but we felt
like we should go anyway, so we did. We hop his gated fence, and walked the
quarter mile dirt driveway to his house. No porch lights were on but we knocked, no answer. Knocked again, no answer. And then Ding Dong, the dogs barked and we
knew there was going to be an answer now. Haha and there was. Through the glass door we
see this huge burly guy, superrrrr intimidating. He opens the door, asks who the heck we are
and why we're knocking on his door during the Bronco's game. We answered his questions and next thing ya
know we're sitting on his coach inside having a great conversation with his
family over a cup of hot cocoa. This
family is wayyy wayyy cool. We prayed
with them and set up a time to come back next week. We gave a Book of Mormon to Adin, the 10 year
old son. Brian wants his kids to come to
church and c heck it out for themselves and by the time we left he acted like
we were best boys. So the reason why I
share these two stories with ya is first to kinda update ya on the events in
Parker, Co but also to share that I know the Lord will bless us with the righteous
desires of our heart to share the gospel with others, IF we are willing to act
on the answers. Doctrine and Covenants 82:10. "I, the Lord God, am bound
when ye do what i say, but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise."
Also I feel
impressed to share my thoughts on the Book of Mormon. As you all know it really is the word of God. It teaches and helps us grow in our
understanding and testimony of Jesus Christ. It contains the fullness of the doctrine. It is the resource God has blessed us with to
ponder, read, ponder, and pray and ask to know of it's truthfulness so that we
then know that Joseph Smith was in reality of prophet of God, that Jesus Christ
really is our Savior and the power of His Atonement is real, and that the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the place to be to be completely
redeemed from sin, be endowed with power from on High through the constant
companionship of the Spirit, and qualify for that eternal life that we all
inherently desire. I know it's all true
fam and I'm grateful for the answers to my prayers that you have been.
Have a
wonderful thanksgiving!!
